Amy Estes is a writer, educator, and storyteller living in Sacramento, California. In 2023, she was selected as a Lambda Literary Fellow, and she has attended the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop as both a participant and a Peter Taylor Fellow. In 2026, she attended the DISQUIET International Literary Program in Lisbon. She earned her MFA in Writing, with a focus in fiction and nonfiction, from Vermont College of Fine Arts in July 2025. Her writing has appeared in The Rumpus, McSweeney’s, and elsewhere, and she can often be found reading her work aloud at live lit events, including Mortified.

Amy is at work on an essay collection about growing up as a closeted queer kid in the evangelical church and the strange, messy intersections of faith, mental health, desire, and becoming yourself. She is also writing a novel about three generations of women grappling with desire, queerness, connection, and what it takes to become fully themselves.
